Bench Press Tips

Tips on How to Bench Press. There are some other common errors that you must avoid in order to maximize the benefits of the bench press exercise and to significantly reduce the risk of injury. I'll address these errors below, and detail how to avoid them:

  • Maintain Body Position. Throughout this entire movement, keep your head down, feet on the ground and your back arched while keeping your butt on the bench. If you're unable to do this, the weight is simply too heavy.
  • Spotters. The bench press is an exercise you should definitely perform with the help of a spotter. If you have too much weight to handle, it could potentially fall onto your chest or neck. Have a spotter to support you and help you complete tough repetitions.
  • Never Bounce. Never bounce the weight off of your chest as you're lowering the bar. This is inviting injury and will prevent proper form on the lift up as well. Not to mention you will look like the gym idiot if you do it. ;-D
